- Claymont Garden History
The garden at Claymont Court was established in the 1820's following the construction of the mansion house. Bushrod Washington's slaves labored to create the walls and terracing still seen today. The garden was originally used both to grow food for the household as well as flowers to beautify the home and landscape http://www.claymont.org/tour/garden/gardhist.htm (Added: Thu Jan 01 2004 Hits: 0 Rating: 0.00 Votes: 0)
